About Us
Welcome to the Export Moose Lodge 234, founded on April 10, 1910 and located approximately 20 miles east of Pittsburgh. We are part of Moose International, a private organization of over one million men and women in four nations dedicated to bettering the lives of children and elderly in need. Our goal is to make our local and international communities better places to live and raise families, and to provide wholesome family recreation at modest cost.
Moose International is a non-profit organization that supports the operation of Mooseheart (a youth care facility) and Moosehaven (a Moose member retirement community). Our membership supports these organizations as well as our own community and entitles members to access Moose Lodges across the United States.
There are many in-house activities and special events within the Lodge including holiday parties, children’s parties, entertainment, music, and more. We also offer dining and beverage services as well as daily and weekly drawings. There are bowling, billiard and dart leagues and groups such as our Moose Riders. Since we cannot list them all, we recommend you check out our membership and events pages for more details.
As you can see, the Export Moose is a club – not just a bar. We have a Social Quarters which gives you the opportunity to broaden your circle of friends with others who share your values and interests within our Community, as well as giving to others. The officers and members of the Export Moose Lodge invite you to take this opportunity to consider becoming a part of our family. We think you would find it to be a rewarding experience; not just for you, but for the other members of your family.
The Moose Family
The 9 O'Clock Ceremony
Since nine o’clock represents the hour in which the little children at Mooseheart are saying their evening prayers. Our ceremony gives us an opportunity to reflect more deeply upon the value of Mooseheart in that it sends a spiritual message of hope and faith directed towards the children. Our fraternal units have performed this ceremony for over ninety years, and it is an important fraternal tradition. After prayer, members are encouraged to contribute to the Mosseheart/Moosehaven Endowment fund.
Our fraternity’s Nine O’Clock Ceremony was first depicted in oil for distribution to Lodges in the early 1930s, with a Mooseheart child saying a bedtime prayer with the Campanile tower shown outside the window; the painting was updated in the early 1960s, now the House of God is depicted at dusk outside the window.
The Prayer
It’s now 9 o’clock, and the little children at Mooseheart kneel by their beds to say their evening prayers. Let us face towards Mooseheart, bow our heads, and join them in Silent Prayer.
Repeat after me…
Let the little children come to me.
Do not keep them away.
For they are like the kingdom of Heaven.
GOD BLESS Mooseheart
